Glossary
- EPA Expected points added
- How many points a play added to a team's expected score, given the down, distance and field position. A 5-yard gain on 3rd-and-4 is worth far more than the same 5 yards on 3rd-and-12.
- CPOE Completion % over expected
- How often a quarterback completes passes compared with what an average passer would on the same throws, based on depth, location and pressure.
- Win probability WP
- A team's chance of winning at any moment, from score, time, field position and timeouts. A play's swing is how far it moved that number.
- Net EPA Power rankings
- Offense EPA per play minus the EPA per play the defense allows. Positive means a team outplays its opponents snap for snap. It ignores strength of schedule, so early-season ranks can swing.
- ATS Against the spread
- A team's record against the closing betting line. A 7-point favorite that wins by 10 covers; one that wins by 3 does not.
- Target share
- The percentage of a team's pass targets that went to one player. Above 25% usually marks a true No. 1 option.
- Dropback
- Any play where the quarterback drops to pass, including sacks and scrambles, so a QB gets credit or blame for all of them.
About
MoneyDown turns every NFL week into a set of charts: who played well, which games swung hardest, and where the targets went. A new set goes up each Tuesday once Monday night is in the books.
Everything here is built from nflverse play-by-play data, the same open dataset behind most public football analytics. Charts are regenerated from the source each week, so the numbers always trace back to the plays. Records against the spread use closing lines.
